New toxic cloud as volcano eruption strengthens
Right when it seemed like the Icelandic Eyjafjallajokull volcano was calming down, a strengthening eruption spews new toxic ash vlouds drifting rapidly towards UK and Europe. Airlines are still grounded and the economic impact on European, and indirectly global, economy will worsen considerably as stockpiles dwindle and business in general is affected. The economic impact may be manageable for the short duration but the longer this continues the more severe the economic fallout with long lasting effects.
Stock markets have as yet to fully reflect fears of long term damage but if the situation remains until the later part of the week this may change.
There is still very little mention in the news about the toxicity of the ash cloud. Here at Dow Live report we feel underestimating the cloud toxicity is a mistake because in the atmosphere the cloud acidity wosens and effectively turns into sulphuric acid which historically has been seen to have very serious effects on cultivations and livestock. On top of that, if the cloud continues to pass over Europe this summer might be ridden with severe storms which will further worsen the crop yields.
